You might see “HAM” radio written in all caps, and that’s understandable—there’s been confusion over where the term comes from. Some think it’s an acronym, and while it has been used that way, “ham” actually started as a playful jab at clumsy operators. Over time, it evolved into the friendly term we use today. So, while “HAM” in all caps might irk some old-timers, don’t worry—we won’t give you too much grief. Just know that “ham” works perfectly fine, lowercase and all!
