Notes from the team:

Thank you for your interest in amateur radio! The following boilerplate information is sent to all Baldwin County Amateur Radio Club (BCARC) Exam Session applicants.

I want to let you know that there is a new online exam practice application available. There is no cost, and it is presented by a reputable organization that markets logging programs for amateur radio operators. The application works nicely on a PC as well as on an Android or iPhone device. The website is [https://study.affirmatech.com/]. I have found this solution to be well-designed and am comfortable sharing it with folks studying for their license.

The Daphne Public Library opens at 0900 local time. Please arrive several minutes early, e.g., 0850 local time. The Exam Team's goal is to get into the conference room and settle as quickly as possible, complete administrative activities and begin testing. For those that have tested with us before, please note that we have moved within the Library from The Community Room to The North Porch, another “indoor” location. Please review the following items before your arrival. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly. This session will adhere to the following standards.

Please bring a current legal photo ID; any of the following documents are acceptable:

  • State Driver's License
  • Government Issued Passport
  • Military or Law Enforcement Office Photo ID card
  • Student School Photo ID card
  • State Photo ID card

Please bring a printed copy of your 10-digit FCC Registration Number (FRN). Effective 5/20/2021, all amateur radio license transactions require an FRN to process. The FCC no longer accepts Social Security Numbers (SSN) on applications. There is a helpful video at [https://www.fcc.gov/rofrn] to guide individuals with obtaining an FRN.

If you are upgrading your license, please bring one printed and signed copy of your current license. This copy will be collected and sent forward as part of your exam submittal package.

Effective 6/29/2021, the FCC license application form requires a current valid email address. Applications without an email address will not be processed. If an applicant does not have email access, ARRL recommends using an email address held by a family member or friend to receive formal correspondence from the FCC. "Formal correspondence" includes the link the FCC will send you to pay your $35.00 FCC new license, license renewal, or vanity license application fee (Please Note: Fee does not apply to operator license upgrades or administrative changes such as addresses.) and a second link that enables you to print an Official Copy of your license!

Use of a calculator with the memory erased and formulas cleared is allowed. You may not bring any written notes or calculations into the Exam Session. You will be provided with scratch paper to use during your exam(s). Slide rules and logarithmic tables are acceptable if they are free of notes and formulas. Cellphones must be silenced or turned off during the Exam Session, and phone calculator functions may not be used. Please bring a black ballpoint pen to use when completing formal application documents. Pencils will be provided for use with exam answer sheets.

Insert Special Needs Accommodation statement.

The Exam Fee is $15.00 per candidate per session. Please bring exact change cash to cover your Exam Fee. When you pass your exam, you may take the next level exam(s) at no cost if you wish. The Exam Team and I sincerely look forward to meeting you on 11/15/2025. Best wishes with your exam preparation! Should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out directly to me at your convenience.

Sincere regards,

Joel Emmett, W2BJN Baldwin County ARC VE Coordinator e: w2bjn@arrl.net c: 716.510.7143
